Adirondacks: Split Rocks Falls
A few weeks ago we left San Diego, California, which we called home for 6 years, in order to explore more of the world and ourselves. While waiting for our upcoming trip to Europe, we wanted to visit Upstate New York, specifically the Adirondack Mountain area.
We found a much different “situation” here than we expected. We left what was almost summer weather and came to late winter, with slight signs of spring, aka cold weather, and a grey sky. It's been quite a change from what we've known, as we haven't experienced real seasons since moving to SoCal, and boy does the body forget about the cold when living in warmer climates.

We have been spending a lot more time inside than intended due to heavy rains and cold weather. We've been keeping busy as planning a four-month trip through Europe is no easy task, but I have been itching constantly for the outdoors - in SoCal we didn't spend much time inside as I need sunshine and fresh air for clarity and wellbeing.
Finally, the forecast was promising sunshine and warmer temperatures so we made plans to go visit some of the gorgeous places I've been seeing from the car when driving.
Of course, the forecast was far from accurate and we woke up to another cold and cloudy day but decided to go ahead with our plans anyway.
What I remember about Upstate New York is that it has many beautiful woods, mountains, waterfalls, lakes, and ponds and I have been eager to explore them. The first place on our list was the Split Rocks Falls.
I have a weakness for water in any form: ocean, river, waterfall, lake - you name it. When I saw this waterfall, I instantly found my happy place: the raging water, the scenery, the predominant peace in spite of the fury of the water brought me joy and relaxation. The woods with its trees covered in moss, the mist in the air, and the grey sky reminded me of the scenery in the Twilight movie as I have greatly admired and dreamed of seeing such landscapes. It was cold and we could barely feel our hands but we stayed and took in the surroundings - it was just us and nature.
Have you been to the Adirondacks? If not, do you plan on going?
Until next time.
XOXO,
Em
