Friday Randoms: Sunny Jim Cave in La Jolla, CA

TGIF! Just in time for the weekend, here's an idea if you happen to be visiting, or, maybe, who knows, inspire you to play tourist in your own town.

In our pursuit of places to go visit a while ago, we stumbled upon this cave and wanted to go inside. The first time we thought of going in, I was wearing sandals and hubby was against me going down 145 stairs, especially when those stairs are wet and most likely slippery. Given that, we decided to make another trip here, so we could finally go inside this cave.

Well, let me tell you that it was interesting but we expected more of it. Once in the large opening, we ended up on a platform and were limited to that. I understand safety must come first but I wish we could have touched the "ground".

Have you noticed the opening that leads to the world outside? It looks almost like the profile of a person. Well, more or less but it is said the opening resembles the head of the person whose name the cave is bearing...

We hang around there for about 20 minutes or so, watching kayaks coming by the cave entrance, snorkelers, and people swimming. Once we were done looking at the world through the cave opening, we headed on our way back.

Minutes before we made it back to the platform, a big rock fell on the railing, breaking a section of it, so be aware, this place can be dangerous - just in case I made you want to visit it.

Here is the part that I liked the most - climbing up and down the narrow staircase - it brought out the Indiana Jones in me, haha, though, if you have claustrophobia I recommend you stay away from it - it is a long climb, no windows or openings in sight, so it might get complicated.

I have to admit it was a bit creepy for me too, just because I like to be aware of my surroundings and it's a bit scary when all you have around is walls. But we made it out alive and it was a different kind of experience - we don't get to go inside caves every day and see the ocean from such a standpoint.
