The fisherman aesthetic, modified
Sometime last year, Pinterest shared predictions for 2025 fashion trends, and while some were a sure “no” for me, others I looked forward to embracing. One of those is the fisherman aesthetic. Yes, the one that includes nautical stripes, cable knits, rope accessories (like this or this belt), fisherman sandals, wide-leg pants (these too), boat shoes, etc.
Generally speaking, I’m not someone who follows trends, and even with the ones I like, I only choose what works for me and my [life]style.
With that said, this dress was an immediate “yes” for me. I shared recently that I wanted this dress that’s similar to this one I have. I liked the new style better but, did I really need another dress so similar? No, I did not. But then, I came across this mixed-media dress with a striped top and fuller skirt, and I couldn’t resist it. Especially as it was almost half the price of the one I had in mind initially. And so, the fisherman aesthetic claimed its spot in my closet once more.
Mind you, I personalized it to my liking, as in, wore it with these classic mules for a day out. Aka dressed it up.
And I also styled it a little more true to the trend, by wearing it with these locally-found fisherman sandals — they’re my go-to for long walks as they’re incredibly comfortable. These and these are somewhat similar fisherman sandals. Because it was still somewhat chilly, I added a red-ish sweater worn over the shoulders for contrast. And finished the look with my favorite oversized sunglasses.
I love both of these looks. And I love this dress, of course. Sizing note: it fits true to size and the top is stretchy.
