#BlackoutDay2020

As you might have already heard, today, July 7th, 2020 is #BlackOutDay, the day when Black Americans, other minorities, and their allies aren’t spending any money, unless it is with Black-owned businesses. This event is in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. Its purpose is to bring awareness of the spending power Black people have, and how that impacts our economy, as a form of protest against the institutionally racist policies and practices across businesses, as well as social injustices involving these communities. For more details on this event, please visit this website.

This past month, I, along with many others, have become aware and learned about racism and the injustices Black people face daily, as well as the ways these injustices are deeply-rooted in our daily lives.

As I strive to be an ally, I am participating in this movement. However, if you do want to shop today, I plead with you to take a look at this post, where I shared several Black-owned businesses I and others came across. Please consider buying from them and supporting them now and in the future. Thank you.

Until next time.

xoxo,

Em
