First day of Fall in SoCal
From what I see online, there is a lot of excitement for the fall season. While I understand the reasons, In SoCal, fall doesn't usually arrive until mid-November. There is, however, a noticeable coolness in the air these days, mostly at night and in the mornings. During the day though, we're still enjoying the same summer warmth.
So, naturally, on the first official day of fall, we headed to the beach, partly because it was another hot day here, and partly because we wanted to enjoy the ocean water prior to it cooling too much.
We met with some significant waves in parts, a mixture of cold and warm currents and a clean beach; I say clean because the seaweed and algae that are usually brought over by the ocean waves were missing this time. We took our shoes off and started crossing the beach, headed towards the water. The sand was of the perfect temperature, far from the burning-hot one from over the summer.
We walked by the water until we were almost overtaken by the waves and the wind. I didn't try to run from them though. With my dress wet, I played in the waves, watching them move forward and retracting, feeling the sand move from below my feet, and admiring the pelicans jetting into the water. I could have sat there watching them for hours.
During this game, the wind blew my hat from my head, straight into the sandy water - it's still drying after I had to clean the sand off it - fingers crossed it's not ruined.
We decided to leave while the sun was still up, to allow its rays to dry my dress, before heading home.
How did you spend the first day of fall?
Until next time.
XOXO,
Em
