Life lately: I'm back!
Hi friends! I hope you’re doing well, in spite of everything going on.
It’s been a longer “vacation” than I anticipated. And I use quotation marks when I say vacation because the time I’ve been offline has been nothing like a vacation.
Well, since the last time I wrote here, things happened - good and not so good. I did email my subscribers to let them know what’s going on, and if you’re not part of that group yet, sign up here - I send out a more personal email with updates on a monthly basis.
The good news is that we are now finally settled in our new place and we are officially Florida residents. But that didn’t come without some “adventures”…
While Florida has a surprisingly efficient and quick process when it comes to obtaining/changing a Driver’s License or ID, I had to have mine replaced the same day due to a typo. I only noticed it once I registered to vote - you bet I’m doing that here - and received a confirmation. I had to get on the phone with a supervisor, go back to the Tax Collector’s office (Florida’s DMV, basically), and have a new one issued (they are issued on the spot). So that was a fun “Welcome to Florida” experience!
Btw, DMV offices in Florida are currently running by appointment only due to COVID-19 (face masks are required), and we had ours scheduled 30 days out. Oh, a cool thing though is that Florida issues Real IDs only, at no “extra” cost!
We had other “fun” experiences at our place as we ran into water-meter and some minor maintenance issues, but hopefully, they are resolved now. Oh, did I mention we also had to “chase” a snake out of our garage? It seems that the snake made the garage its home, and my husband joked that it wasn’t the snake moving in, it was us moving into its “home”… it wasn’t as funny at that moment… and no, we haven’t seen it again, so far. As you see, we’ve certainly been busy here.
Other than that, we’ve been settling nicely in our townhome - we’re liking it a lot as it’s spacious for the two of us, has a large, beautiful kitchen, and most importantly, is quiet. We have minimally decorated it with whatever things we have left after we donated most of our belongings last year.
As far as furniture, we were lucky to find the one we wanted… if you’ve been shopping for home stuff lately, you know that that is an adventure in itself these days… we literally bought the last sofa in stock, and one of the last items like the coffee table, bed, mattress, and even bar stools - that pretty much sums up the furniture we have now. I’ll be sharing a more detailed blog post about that soon.
Now that we are settled here, we’re eagerly waiting for some cooler weather so we can go out and [safely] explore our new area and what Florida has to offer… I’m finding that there’s a lot more to it than beaches and Disneyworld.
Other than those mentioned, what is your favorite thing about Florida?
Until next time.
xoxo,
Em
