You do you - staying active
Hubby and me love the outdoors - not in a "camping" kind of way but we simply love being outside - after all, we live in So Cal.
And what better way to enjoy the outdoors than going biking?
I am not a sporty person, meaning, I don't like or care for sports and that same applies to exercise - yes, I know it's bad. I tried to change this about myself but I just wasn't enjoying it, so you know, I did what most people do - I gave up.
But I like to stay somewhat active and I do that through biking - not that bad now, huh?
I love biking especially because of the feeling it gives me - freedom, peace, and relaxation.
It's been so for as long as I can remember. And speaking of memories, I just remembered how it all started - funny story ahead...
It was my brother who taught me how to bike... sort of. Like most siblings, we loved to hate each other and quarrel a lot. He was the older one, so he was stuck on many occasions having to watch me, instead of playing with his friends. One winter he thought he would find a way to escape that by introducing me to bikes. He took me to our garden and convinced me to get on his bike, promising that he would hold it for me until I learned to ride on my own. I got on, started going, and noticed I was going too fast, looked back to only see my brother way behind me, laughing. I freaked out, let go of the steering wheel, and headed straight towards a tree, fully hugging it, yes HUGGING it. Needless to say, the front wheel didn't quite survive the impact but somehow I did. I don't quite remember if I hit my nose into the tree or not.
On many other occasions, the neighbors' fences were the ending point of my biking lessons. Once I "mastered" the bike-riding though, I found it exhilarating, not to mention that it is a great way to get my exercise in, in a way that I enjoy.
The wind blowing through my hair while passing things left and right is one of the best feelings in the world to me.
It was last minute, but before we gave it a second thought, we were out the door, on our way to our favorite island in So Cal - Coronado.
We think Coronado is the perfect place for biking - it has large streets with little traffic once you get away from the main ones, it's quiet and simply beautiful. We absolutely love admiring the mansions and houses on this island, (actually this "island" is a peninsula).
We went as fast as we could, roaming the streets of the island, making stops to either rest a bit or just enjoy the area - every corner here is worth it.
If you've never been to Coronado before, I highly recommend it. We don't go there to eat so I can't recommend any food places but the architecture and beauty of this place are famous (Hotel Del Coronado is what Coronado is famous for, and is its top attraction, along with the beach).
We all need to stay active and try to have a healthy lifestyle. If you are like me and don't like exercising, try finding a way to replace it. What do you like to do? Is it walking or hiking, or perhaps, running? Whatever it is, do it.
We often don't realize how much we tax our bodies living a sedentary life by being stuck at the office for let's say eight hours a day, then driving another hour and so on, not to mention all the stress that comes along with it.
Do something fun, explore, love yourself be happy - you deserve it!
By the way, did you find my story of how I learned to ride a bike funny? Let me know in the comments.
XOXO,
Em
