Niagara Falls, New York

Days after we returned from our Europe trip, we decided to make a last-minute journey to Niagara Falls.
We've been there many years ago but did not manage to go to Canada side to see the falls, and I've been wanting to return ever since.

Since we haven't had time to stash away our passports and were a few hours away, we figured it would be a nice way of going down the memory lane. When we went there the first time, we were freshly married, young, inexperienced, and in love. Not much has changed in regards to our marriage since then, other than the years we have under our belt now, haha.

Mid-September to October is a good time to visit since it's not as busy or hot as in the summer: you get some nice warm days, fall foliage if you're lucky, and more views to yourself.

We arrived in Niagara Falls, NY towards the evening and after checking into our hotel, we ran to the falls.
At a first glance, few things have changed there since visiting for the first time. The Niagara Falls State Park got a facelift, but the Visitor Center area seemed even sadder than before. There is not much diversity or options when it comes to food or even gift shopping. Nonetheless, we tried to make the best of our stay there. All we had to do was head towards the falls as they cannot disappoint.

Niagara Falls includes three waterfalls: The American Falls, the Bridal Veil (the smallest one of them), and Horseshoe. The first two are located in New York, USA, while the last connects the US with Canada. Horseshoe is the biggest waterfall of them and is also my favorite.

Any time of the day is perfect for visiting the falls as you get to experience it differently each time, depending on the light. By the time we arrived there, the sun was setting, dropping delightful pink and golden light over the water and surrounding nature.
I couldn't help but be mesmerized by the raging water, the light, and the mist that made it hard to stay dry.
We visited all three waterfalls one by one, taking in the madness the rushing water created, watching the Maid of the Mist and the Hornblower ships braving the waves one after another.
From Horseshoe Falls, we watched the sun set behind the buildings located in Ontario, Canada, before heading back to our hotel for the night. The next day we had a packed schedule between Maid of the Mist, meeting one of my husband's friends, and crossing the border to Canada, where we'd continue our Niagara falls visit.
