A self-care moment

Without a doubt, last week was a terrifying one for so many of us. As we are now left to process the events that occurred on Capitol Hill, while mentally preparing for whatever comes next, the anxiety is at an all-time high.

Since last week, I have been in a stupefied state, and after two full days of being tied to my phone, constantly checking the news, I realized that I wasn’t helping myself, nor anyone else, so I took a step away from all that.

Knowing what is going on is important, and I like to stay informed in order to be able to make necessary decisions regarding whatever events or situations take place. However, keeping up with speculations and commentary - like I was - that ultimately doesn’t change the order of things is not helpful nor healthy by any means. So I gave myself a break, aka self-care.

That came in the form of chatting with family and watching (via skype) my almost 2-year old nephew being the playful child he is - it brings us so much joy to see him grow and develop.

This self-care also came in the form of completely disconnecting from the news for some time, and immersing ourselves in HGTV’s Love It or List It - the banter between the realtor and designer is pretty entertaining, plus, we’re learning a thing or two from the show (yes, we know it’s staged). And, of course, taking walks outside for fresh air, as well as remove ourselves from our “environment” for a bit.

While we’re all navigating these tumultuous days, I urge you to step away from the news as much as you can or need and choose to practice self-care, whichever way that looks for you.
