June at a glance...
June was peaceful around here…
WHAT I/WE DID
Nothing would be the appropriate word. We’re well into my least favorite time in Florida, which means we’re mostly homebound. It’s too hot to be outside and, honestly, that’s just where I’d like to be when leaving our home. We’re not party people, we don’t like to go to bars, etc, and there are only so many museums and such where one could go. Anyway… We’ve basically been keeping busy at home. A very low-key month and I’m okay with that!
JUNE BLOG POSTS ROUNDUP
June was focused on beauty and summer dressing and accessorizing. Here’s what I wrote:
Summer must-have accessories. I firmly believe that accessories are the most important part of your look/outfit, so I put together a list of some fun ideas.
My makeup philosophy. All in all, I don’t enjoy putting makeup on, and I have some rules…
5 things that bring me joy this week. In a world that seems more and more determined to dim our lights, we keep looking for small joys to keep us going…
A gorgeous linen-blend dress, plus more. I’ve eyed this dress for months (it kept going in and out of stock), but I finally made it mine.
My current skincare routine. I’ve come to accept that I do not enjoy complicated skincare routines. This is as simple as I can have it.
Summer prints. Yummy colors and prints to bring vacation vibes wherever you are!
My most complimented dress…. No lie!
WHAT I BOUGHT
I didn’t shop much in June — I wanted to wait for the 4th of July sales. However, what comes to mind is…
This linen-blend dress I’m loving. Obviously.
A toile dress that’s now sold out and a linen shirt dress I bought in store and have not found online. I think that’s pretty much it… Oh, I did purchase two woven leather bags at one of our local markets.
MY MOST WORN ITEM IN June
Since it’s been so impossibly hot, I’ve worn some of my old 100% linen dresses, plus this new one. And, for the 3rd month in a row, this bag (mostly because I’ve been too lazy to switch it, but also because it goes with everything). Oh, and these sunglasses — I just love them!
WHAT WE WATCHED
The Veil. It reminded us of Killing Eve at times, but the show has its own merit — we enjoyed it and recommend it.
The Fall Guy. We loved it, plain and simple.
Ghosts. We finished season 3, which was as good as ever, and now we wait for season 4. If you haven’t watched this show, what are you doing with your life?
Dark Matter. We’re currently watching it but I have to say it made us think of Severance in a way that equally blew our minds. Bottom line: it’s terrific (so far) and oh-so-confusing as we go further into the season.
WHAT I READ
Finished The Curious Charms of Arthur Pepper by Phaedra Patrick. “Perfect for fans of A Man Called Ove, this curiously charming debut follows a lovable widower and his life-changing adventure of love and self-discovery.”
It’s an adorable story and I’ve come to love the characters. Overall, I enjoyed the book, though it might have been a bit too slow-paced for me.
The Lost Dresses of Italy by M. A. McLaughlin. “In this rich, atmospheric historical novel, perfect for fans of Brenda Janowitz and Adriana Trigiani, two stories of love and deceit intertwine nearly a hundred years apart in Verona, Italy.”
I enjoyed this novel, though the final twist took me by surprise — I truly did not see it coming. I recommend it.
The Last Mona Lisa by Jonathan Santlofer. “From award-winning crime writer and celebrated artist, Jonathan Santlofer comes an enthralling tale about the 1911 theft of the Mona Lisa from the Louvre, the forgeries that appeared in its wake, and the present-day underbelly of the art world.”
I am only a few chapters in so far, and, in all honesty, it’s slow-moving. I’ll keep on reading it to see if it really becomes un-put-downable.
SONG OF THE MONTH
In light of yesterday… plus, it’s my favorite song to work out to.
