5 things that bring me joy this week

Check the entire “5 things that bring me joy this week” weekly series here, a collection of seemingly insignificant things that remind us to appreciate the little things — those small joys that make a difference in our day-to-day.

These last few days have put a lot of things into perspective… We have absolutely nothing to complain about as we were extremely lucky with this hurricane… That luck being that we’re higher off the ground, and thus, avoided the massive flooding that occurred in our neighborhood, including our building. Our power stayed on, though it flickered several times. We lost the internet, though it was restored fairly quickly the next day. I won’t get into more details, because, yes, this was a bit traumatic and scary, but we’re fine.

So many people are not, though… If you’re looking for ways to help those affected by Hurricane Helene, I put together a list of sources on how to do so. If you’re able, please consider it.

Apart from that, this week it hit me that it’s pitch dark before 8PM and it’s just about the same when we wake up at 7AM, and, well, it does not bring joy. I truly dislike the time change and the shorter days going into this time of the year… The upside is that we won’t miss the breathtaking sunrises anymore now that they happen after we wake up… Always looking for the upside.

All aside, here are 5 things that bring me joy this week:

  • the cooler weather on the forecast. We’re not clear about the hurricane season, but next week’s forecast is bringing temperatures below 90 or more like below/around 85 degrees, and this girl is happy. Now if only all storms vanished into the ocean…

  • this boucle cardigan that’s identical to an old one I have… If you’re looking for a cozy hip-length cardigan, this is the one! After all, cardigan season is upon us (so I tell myself while it’s 90 degrees outside). But, if you’re like me, cozy cardigans bring joy! P.S. If you prefer it in sweater form…

  • finding time to read! It’s not always an easy thing to do for various reasons, but I have been making time this week, and yep it brings joy!

  • pickled okra. I’m obsessed with this stuff!

  • seeing that good humans exist aplenty! The pouring of support for those affected by the hurricanes says it all. Why aren’t we like this not just when disaster strikes?

What’s bringing YOU joy this week?

xo,

Em
