Late summer and early fall outfits
If you are anywhere in the South, you know that we’re still melting over here and find it incredulous that other places are switching to fall mode.
To be perfectly honest, I’m in no rush to switch my wardrobe to fall — I’m just really looking forward to enjoying being outside without getting covered in sweat in the first two minutes. Although I may have clothes I’ve avoided wearing all summer just because they’re not as breathable as linen, so you can say I’m looking forward to wearing those.
I did, however, try to switch things up lately by wearing skirts instead of my go-to dresses. It’s been a nice change and I’m looking forward to finding more ways to wear my skirts. As you can see, right now I love wearing them with vests.
This poplin pleated skirt was a great find (also seen here)… It’s only available in a few sizes in navy but fully stocked in other colors perfect for fall. And it’s obviously on sale (isn’t pretty much everything this week?). Note that I went up a size (I bought a 6) as it’s a bit tight in the waist area.
The vest I’m wearing is sold out but this one is pretty similar and on sale. This cotton vest is also fairly similar. This Ponte vest is cute (and great for fall), and so is this one. This linen vest is great for those places still experiencing the cruel summer heat, aka the South. Vests are extremely versatile and can be worn in many ways to effortlessly elevate your style.
Apart from vests, I love the idea of wearing a lightweight short-sleeved sweater with a skirt, shorts, or other bottoms you like to wear this time of the year.
Specifically, I find denim skirts to be ideal (and extremely chic) for fall — they work great paired with sweaters or shirts. And they pair well with all types of shoes, from sneakers to pumps, and boots. However, the same can be said about a pleated skirt or a slip skirt — they’re classics for a reason!
End-of-summer and early fall outfits entail a bit more moody colors. I’m personally looking forward to incorporating red and burgundy/wine, and navy, of course. I personally, am not a fan of brown, however, you can never go wrong with wearing various shades of brown and cream during fall.
Once the weather starts changing, a jacket or sweater becomes our best friend.
J.Crew never disappoints with their lady jackets, most of them becoming iconic. Speaking of, this one is stunning, and so is this slightly different one.
This lady jacket is very similar to the one I have and is much more affordable, and so is this one. The best part about lady jackets is that they go with almost everything and work for just about any occasion, so I recommend adding one to your closet if you haven’t yet.
