More elegance, please
When did we become so complacent that we don’t care about how we look anymore? And most importantly, when did so many decide that their go-to clothes for [almost] everything are athleisure, leggings, and sweatpants? It just baffles me…
I know it’s hot… I’ve accepted the idea that I won’t be comfortable in this heat no matter how I dress so I continue to wear the things I love. That’s why I put together a list with my tips on surviving the summer heat… it’s not that complicated.
I’ve talked about this before, and this idea is only getting stronger in my head — I want to see more elegance, please.
I am craving more elegance in the way we dress, but also in the way we act and speak... Have you ever admired someone for being dressed up to the nines… up to the moment they opened their mouth? That’s what I’m referring to.
I wish we didn’t jump down each other’s throats when our opinions differ. I wish that when we saw something we don’t like, we move on instead of blasting and actively hating on it. I wish we stopped normalizing cussing… I wish we gave it a thought before we spoke… And I wish we knew when to stop talking…Yes, all these are part of being elegant… And yes, I’m aware that it sounds like I’m hating, but it’s hard to bring my point across without giving [honest] examples, right?
Maybe it’s the definition of elegance that we don’t understand, hence we don’t know what to look for? The dictionary defines it as 1) the quality of being graceful and stylish in appearance or manner; style; 2) the quality of being pleasingly ingenious and simple; neatness. Does that clarify it? Here’s another post I wrote that embodies the literal definition of elegance.
Let’s be real — elegance attracts… there is a reason we instantly admire someone who dresses and acts elegantly. Kate Middleton is the perfect example of this… she always dresses impeccably and even acts elegantly… Now we don’t have to literally be like her (considering that most of us don’t have the resources she does), but we sure can copy certain elements — there’s nothing wrong with copying someone’s style, as long as it suits you.
Dressing better would be the starting point… have you ever noticed that when you dress up you tend to carry yourself differently? As in more carefully and just better overall?
Learning about emotional intelligence, and how to apply it would have another major impact on elegance… It’s my life’s mission to master it, not just as a means to be more elegant, but for my overall quality of life… While experiencing and processing good and bad emotions and feelings is totally natural and healthy, allowing them to spiral is not. They’re breeding anxiety, panic attacks, etc. Food for thought.
