White dresses and how to wear them

White dresses and how to wear them | Blooming Magnolias Blog | Fashion, white dress, linen dress, how to wear white dresses

What would summer be without a little white dress? Or, a white dress, really, be it long or short. It’s a staple for effortless style and those too-warm days when you can’t be bothered.

Plus, a white dress is a literal blank canvas to style as you please. Keep it white and simple if you like it, or go bold with colorful accessories like I did in these photos. The possibilities truly are endless!

I personally think that wearing white with turquoise jewelry (or accessories) is a visual treat! And it’s the perfect color combo for summer.

Of course, another visual treat is pairing a white dress with a navy-striped cardigan when the occasion calls for it (aka, chilly days/evenings). Talk about coastal and nautical vibes! Or that effortless elegance…

A practical note: white clothes can often be see-through. For white dresses and especially white linen dresses, it’s best to wear a slip or half-slip over shorts. And, of course, on top of that, I always recommend wearing nude underwear (I love these, these, and these). Even if you think that the fabric is opaque, it might just look differently in natural light, especially on a sunny day. I have written a detailed post about this with all my recommendations and “tricks”.

Outfit details: I found my dress at a T.J.Maxx store and wasn’t able to find it online. My bag is old and the brand is “Relic'“. The turquoise necklace is made by yours truly, but I found several beautiful ones here, here, here, here, and here. My espadrilles come with ankle straps now. The sunglasses are old but I linked these cat eye sunglasses that are basically identical.

Scroll below for various white (and off-white) dresses that will elevate your looks this season. Note that many of these are currently on sale!
