5 things that bring me joy this week
You can check out the entire “5 things that bring me joy this week” weekly series here. It's a collection of seemingly insignificant things that remind us to appreciate the little things—those small joys that make a difference in our daily lives.
No, I did not mean to quit this series cold turkey. But joy was not on my mind lately… In fact, I’ve felt the same devastation and desperation many have over these last few weeks.
As I go back and forth from grief and a feeling of hopelessness to determination and resoluteness, I’m taking back control over where my attention goes. So I’m easing into finding glimpses of joy in the little things.
With that said, here are 5 things that bring me joy (or comfort) this week:
the holiday ahead. Yes, my initial thought was to cancel the holidays this year, but after thinking about it repeatedly, I decided to go ahead with the celebrations and live in the now. I am, however, choosing carefully who I celebrate with. In all honesty, this is no different than previous years — I don’t allow the people I don’t want around me, around, it’s that simple. I’m protecting my peace and you should do the same! And… I can’t stop thinking about the pies I’ll be making and enjoying next week, and wow, does that bring me joy (I’ll be making a blueberry cheesecake, so, yeah, I’m salivating as I’m writing this…).
disconnecting. From the news, feeds, etc. Limiting the anxiety, headlines, and so on. Finding peace and inspiration from people and topics not “connected” to what’s happening. Trust me, you don’t need to know every headline, action, etc. Limit the sensationalism. Listen to or read something new or different. Keep your mind occupied with interesting things. Please know that I’m not telling you to ignore reality, but rather to not let it consume you.
leaning into the people/pets and things that bring a sense of routine and peace. I know, I know, I’ve been through it too, that “nothing matters anymore”, “what’s the point”, and “nothing brings me joy anymore”. It’s all-natural and part of the grieving process — feel your feelings, but keep leaning into the things/routines/people. Eventually, you’ll start getting your joy back. Don’t let anyone steal your joy forever!
these dietary supplements that have been helping me sleep. I’ll admit that sleep has been an issue lately, and these capsules have helped a lot. I know they help because I can’t sleep through the night if I forget to take them. If you’re interested in trying them, please check with your doctor.
some really great sales. If you need some retail therapy, Black Friday sales have already started. Some worth mentioning are the Hill House Home annual sale, Sarah Flint's 30% off sale with code BF30, and J.Crew.
What’s bringing YOU joy this week?
