A classic look for work and play
Well, it happened. It’s been cold here for about a month now, and we’re not okay. We’re freezing. So after about 10 months of wearing dresses only, I had to switch to wearing pants. Except, I didn’t have any, other than denim, and the truth is that I’m not into denim these days. So I went to one of my very favorite retailers and started looking for options.
As a side note, I love to shop at Banana Republic and Banana Republic Factory because I find quality pieces at great sale prices. Most importantly though, I find natural fabrics and pieces with pockets (including skirts and dresses), and we know I love those…
Unsurprisingly, I found many options for pants there, including the ones I’m wearing in these photos.
These Tencel wide-leg pants are on an amazing sale and available in all sizes, but one. I bought them in navy and this “oyster pearl” and I am so happy I did.
I was not sure about them when I received them, but after trying them on, and especially after actually wearing them, I am a fan. They’re incredibly comfortable and airy, so they will be great for spring, summer, and fall anywhere else, and all seasons in Florida or milder climates. They’re not too dressy or too casual, which makes them great everyday staples.
Despite the site advising these run large, I decided to size up and get them in size 6 (I haven’t bought pants in so long, I really wasn’t sure of sizing). Now I think 4 would have been just fine. While the fabric is not stretchy, these pants do stretch out a bit when worn (and shrink a bit when washed). Also, because I sized up, they are a bit long on me, so I need to wear shoes with some heel height to prevent them from touching the ground (I opted for espadrille wedges — my exact ones are old; these are by the same brand, and these and these are very similar.) I very much prefer this look, though, again, the retailer advised the length was intentional.
Worth noting is that I don’t find these oyster pearl wide-leg pants to be see-through (though they’re unlined). However, as with any light-colored pieces, I recommend wearing nude underwear. Also, the side and back pockets came sewn shut, but I opened them easily and carefully.
While these trousers can be worn with any top, I opted for this ultra-soft striped cardigan— it’s sold out in stripes but available in several other colors (and on sale). It’s the perfect piece for layering or wearing as a top.
This look is great worn at the office or anywhere else. It’s classy, effortless, comfortable, and an easy way to dress up every day.
